报告摘要：Prof. Eric W. Kaler will discuss the history and changing role of the American research university, its multi-faceted mission, its relationship to scientific discovery and innovation, and its partnership with industry. He will also detail his University of Minnesota’s deep and important history with, and relationship to, higher education in China.
报告人简介：
Eric Kale校长，现任明尼苏达大学第16任校长，也是其校史上第二位由本校校友担任的校长。1978年，Eric Kaler校长从加州理工学院本科毕业； 1982年，又以化学工程博士学位从明尼苏达大学毕业，成为了复杂流体领域的专家； 2010年，他被选为美国国家工程学院院士； 2012年，又被提名为美国国土安全部学术顾问委员会委员； 2013年，他成为了美国国家科学院特许专利发明者之一。
