6月25日下午，应数学科学学院的邀请，美国威斯康星大学教授陈秀雄在中关村教学楼N313教室为大家展开了为期两周的微分几何系列讲座。
陈秀雄教授，1994年在美国宾夕法尼亚大学获博士学位，尔后在加拿大 McMaster 大学任讲师，美国斯坦福大学做博士后，美国普林斯顿大学任助教授，现为美国威斯康星大学教授。主要研究方向为几何分析，曾应邀在多个国际学术会议上作报告, 2002 年应邀在国际数学家大会上作 45 分钟邀请报告。
这次主讲内容分为5个部分：(1) Basic comparison geometry developed in the 1980s. For instance, the Bishop-Gromov volume comparison theorem, Cheeger-Gromoll split theorem etc; (2) Basic Kahler geometry, connection in complex vector bundle, first Chern class; Fubni study metric, Kahler Einstein metric, Calabi futaki invariants;(3) Aubin-Yau-Calabi theorem on the existence of KE metric when C1 < 0; Yau-Calabi theorem on the existence of Calabi-Yau metric when C1 =0; Tian’s theorem on Calabi conjecture on complex surface when C1 > 0; (4) Kahler Ricci flow, the work of H. D. Cao, N. Mok, Chen-Tian and Tian-Zhu will be discussed; (5) The space of geodesics, uniqueness of extremal Kahler metrics。
陈秀雄教授善于将简单的问题细化，复杂的问题简单化，抽象的问题形象化。让我们从简单的问题中看到隐藏的不简单的一面，而复杂的问题中看到简单的另一面。为原本感到沉闷的微分几何带来生机，激发了大家学习的兴趣。
